What Will it Take?

Wednesday 16 March 2011

What will be the deciding factor, the catalyst, the trigger, the inspiration, the realisation or the acceptance to make you take action?

With the growing desire and thirst for more time saving and labour saving devices, such as fast foods, online shopping, home gadgets and electronic abdominal stimulators (oh dear!!) the consequence undoubtedly leads to an obesogenic environment. The result; a chance of developing type 2 diabetes, heart disease, insulin resilience, high blood pressure, dyslipidenia and premature death. Additionally many obese people have low self efficacy, suffer forms of depression and social inadequacy.
Could this scare you to take action?

What inspires you?
For me it is watching people push themselves beyond what is thought possible. This could be their battle to run 365 marathons in 365 days. This could be someone learning how to walk again after an accident. Or this could be someone who takes the first step towards a happier and healthier lifestyle by accepting they need help. All inspiring for me – what inspires you?

What changes can you make?
Don’t worry yourself by aiming for perfection, or even reaching the governments’ physical activity or fruit and veg guidelines, just work on the principles of doing a little bit more or less. You will make it; it just takes time – what’s the first change you will make?

Have you ever thought what if?
What if I took that job? What if I said sorry? What if I spoke about it? This is a common question for most of us and for some, may reinforce that the decision was right at that time, and things are ok now. Sadly for others that may not be the case. It is now too late to take action. There is nothing they can do now but think “what if?” They will regret that moment for the rest of their lives… Don’t let today be that day! What action will you take?

Who is it all for?
I want to say it’s all about you, your goal, your dream, your body, your life, but for some, the only way is to do it for others. Set a great example for your children; don’t let them fall into the same trap as you. Do it for your partner, either to help motivate them to overcome their problem and exercise together or to stop them nagging you about your weight. Who is it for? Embrace the answer and take action.
