No Matter What

Wednesday 29 July 2009

There are many things in life which we do no matter what. We love our partners unconditionally, we help a friend in need, we change our underwear each day (I hope), and we work at making life a fulfilling adventure. These examples are embedded in us from an early age, coming naturally to some, whilst others need encouraging to rediscover them.

The reason I choose to mention this, although it's a tenuous link, is the recent bad weather. This seems to have scared off all of those brilliant runners I spoke about last week (although it has been the most disappointing July I can remember).

You can choose to be a 'fair weather runner' but how about turning things round? Instead of seeing the rain or wind as a problem, consider welcoming them as opportunities to push yourself further -the wind can act as resistance and the rain will add about a ton to your clothing to enhance the weight training.

You might like to ponder on some of these drops of wisdom over the next week:
"it's dry between the drops", "if you're wet, you're clean", "there's no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing (or attitude?)"

Refreshing
Arousing
Invigorating
Nourishing

To finish this philosophy lesson I'll leave you with a quote from my twin brother who suggests that you "run to the rhythm of the sky".

Back to no matter what, there are some things that just need to be done. Some common fallacies are that if you don't eat, you'll lose weight, or that drinking water is boring and that snacking is automatically bad. To have a fit and healthy body you have to eat to replenish your stores after exercising, drink water to rehydrate yourself and there are loads of healthy snacks you can eat which may even speed up your metabolism (keep an eye on the fit tips recipes).

Enjoy.
